I was around seven years old, and I had this neighbor, we’ll call her Sarah. Sarah was eight and she lived right next door, we met on the school bus and played together all the time. She was mean, though, the kind of friend where you don’t need enemies. So, one day she came to my house and we ate some snacks and played outside for a bit, and then we decided to go inside and play hide and seek in the house. There was one rule. Don’t go upstairs. The second floor only had two large rooms: the master suite where my parents slept, and the loft area, which at the time had another TV and my dad’s record collection, stuff like that. Things that the kids new better than to touch. An easy rule to follow.

When I had left my full time job after graduating from college to go back to working part time and starting to rely on martial arts for making a living I took a couple of part time day jobs. I would teach my karate classes at night in two different health clubs while working part time during the day and doing my one reserve weekend per month. One of those part time jobs was working in a grocery store and they eventually wanted me to go to another store and work temporarily in their meat department. I reluctantly agreed since it was understood to be temporary and part time Mon-Fri and would not interfere with my weekends.
